Rolex Explorer II

Rolex Explorer II

We have another custom DLC Rolex this week. This time it is a Explorer II we just finished for another customer. We are pretty excited on how the custom high polished bezel turned out to match the 24-hour hand. The 24-hour hand was used by spelunkers who would stay in caves for days at a time to help know if it was AM or PM outside the cave. I'm not quite sure if this particular customer has exploring on mind when wearing this watch but we are sure he/she will be looking good when engaging in any activity.

Paul Newman Daytona

Just yesterday a late 60's Paul Newman Daytona showed up in the office. The Paul Newman Dayton is one of the rarest Rolex watches around, some people would even consider it the "Holy Grail" to antique Rolex collections. It was made famous by the late Paul Newman who received a Daytona as a gift from his wife in the 1970's when he started motor racing. The Daytona is popular among racing enthusiasts because because it has a stop-watch feature that is used to record lap times.

This gem came from an older lady in Las Vegas who found the watch in an drawer she hadn't looked into for years. A collector found the Daytona and contacted us to ask us if we were interested in it. Naturally we jumped on this amazing opportunity to own a wonderful piece of Rolex history. The watch belonged to the lady's husband who was the only owner. More impressively the watch came with the original band which had been engraved with the owners initials as seen below

The watch is in very good condition considering it is 40 years old. When I was talking to some of the watch makers here they said the movement looked like old Omega movement and was in great working condition. After looking and holding this watch I have a new appreciation for vintage Rolex. This watch may not be the flashiest or newest watch but it has character; every scratch, nick, and blemish is a story in itself that only the watch will remember.
