This week we have an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore. We applied the DLC coating to this watch using the PVD process and as you can see it turned out very well. You can also check out our other black Rolex watches if your a fan. Have any ideas for a watch of the week? Feel free to email me at spencer@timeandgems.com

Custom Rolex

This week we have a co-branded 1980 Rolex Air-king from 1980. This custom Rolex is another collectors watch that has a lot of controversy behind it due to the fact that it is so mysterious. After reading multiple blogs and searching every corner of the internet I have found some information on this watch.

At first I thought this was a Pan-Am Airways Rolex Air-King for the sheer fact that they have done business in the past so it would be a gimme. I later found out that this watch was made for select employees of Pool Intairdril, which provided labor for big named oil companies. Pool Intairdril was a subsidiary of Enserch Corporation which was located in Houston, Texas(fitting for an oil company). The Air-King came with a silver dial with a smooth bezel. Right about the six o'clock stick marker there is a black "P" with a globe in the middle, which stands for Pool Intairdril, and could could easy be mistaken for "Pan-Am".

Rolex stopped co-branding a while so companies like Tiffany's, Pizza Hut and Intairdril were lucky to have the opportunity to offer their customers and employees the chance of getting one of these collector items. If you want to have a custom dial, we do lots of customizations for Rolex watches as you can see here. All you have to do is ask.

  1. I’m not sure where you got your information but that watch’s logo is Pool Offshore Company and was a subsidiary of Pool Company in Texas. I believe the latter part is right. Pool Offshore was based out of Harvey, La on Peters Rd. They were sold to Nabil’s Drilling around 2000. My dad received 2 of these watches for 5 year safety awards. He was there a little over 10 years.
